Tuchel vows not to give up on Saul future as Chelsea midfielder.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has made it clear that he will never give up on loan from Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, but has lost his form. It became a disappointing permanent backup.
“Everybody knows how good Saul Niguez is in the midfield. And he is one of those Chelsea teams who need the most time on the pitch,” the German told Sky Sports.
“Of course, with this level of skill, Saul’s name is always in my head as I plan the team for each match. But the job of a coach is to assess a number of factors, including the training program and current form.”
“Saul’s problem right now is his adaptation to the English Premier League’s intense style of football and there has been some unfortunate involvement that has resulted in a lack of fitness since his arrival.”
“For example, games where Saul were given a lot of playing time against Aston Villa, Southampton, Watford, which were teams that played aggressively. Chasing, chasing, crushing opponents all the time. So he wasn’t able to perform as well as we had hoped.”
“However I am one of those people who will never give up on Saul and believe that he can grow as a midfielder for Chelsea even more and achieve great success in the future. The coaching staff are all willing to help one another to unleash their true potential. Maybe tonight we’ll see his golden figure. Nobody knows.”
